Presentation: Smart grid and load aggregation: Emerging actor in the electrical industry
Throughout North America, energy storage, load curtailment, and distributed generation resources are used for balancing wind energy, providing contingency reserves, and arbitraging energy. The use of information technologies for intelligent load management has led to the development of a whole new business: load aggregation. This 20 minute presentation will introduce this demand response business, the role of smart grid in this area, and its introduction to the electric industry.
David Beauvais is the Smart Grid Project Leader at CanmetENERGY, Natural Resources Canada. He supervises research on demand response and renewable energy integration, more specifically on the use of smart grid technologies to increase the flexibility of power systems. His past experience includes distribution network planning and improvement at Hydro-Quebec and AECOM and economic regulation at La Régie de l’Énergie du Quebec.
